Now we have gone through favourite Doctor and companion pairing stories (I didn't inlcude 8th and Lucie because others have done them earlier) I thought we would look at the stories released each year and decide on our top 5. For the first batch, I have included 1999 and 2000 as there were only 3 releases in 99 as they were bi-monthly. So, what would be your top 5 from 1999 / 2000? Choose from: Sirens of Time Phantasmagoria Whispers of Terror Land of the Dead The Fearmonger The Marian Conspiracy The Genocide Machine Red Dawn The Spectre of Lanyon Moor Winter for the Adept The Apocalypse Element The Fires of Vulcan The Shadow of the Scourge The Holy Terror The Mutant Phase Gosh - weren't the first 15 releases really quite strong. I think I might struggle to get it down to a top 5.... Well, definately in there are Spectre of Lanyon Moor, The Fires of Vulcan, The Fearmonger and Phantasmagoria. If I only have one more choice it would be Marian Conspiracy. However, there are only 1 or 2 releases here that I tend not to listen to very often. So, well done BF for such a strong start to your range. We were really spoilt in 2000! Over to you: can you choose a top 5 from these...? Ninth and BeyondA very friendly Doctor Who forum

Back on the bank at the moment due to an alternator going PHUT (so no electricity when I'm moored.:( ) So back at my Dad's for a week whilst it's repaired. Not really the time of year for moving - especially when the river is in flood. More the time for stoking the stove, putting the iPod HiFi on, and keeping an eye on my 3G usage :) "omnia audite, omnia videte, nil dicite; omnia edite, omnia bibite, nil prodigite; nunquam aliquid, nisi pro vobis, inhonorati facite"

The Holy Terror The Spectre of Lanyon Moor The Mutant Phase The Fires of Vulcan Phantasmagoria
That was so difficult, I have to say the first set of audios up to Mutant Phase tend to be my favourites so picking just five was difficult

I agree with that. It was hard to choose just 5 from this first list. Ninth and BeyondA very friendly Doctor Who forum

Would you people say that these earlier ones are much better than the more recent ones?

The first audios I got were 'The Genocide Machine' and 'Red Dawn' Out of these 15 I only dislike maybe 2 or 3. Apart from 'The Zygon Who Fell to Earth' I don't think any of the other releases this year have instantly grabbed me.

My favourites are:
The Spectre of Lanyon Moor The Marian Conspiracy The Fires of Vulcan Whispers of Terror The Holy Terror
I would have added The Genocide Machine purely just for the unintentional swear word but it just missed out, by the way did anyone else notice this?

Well Elgin refers to Cataloguer Prink as Pri*k, I can't remember exactly where in the story he says it but every time I hear it, it cracks me up.
In fact I'm gonna search through my Ipod and try to remember which episode it's on

Phantasmagoria Sirens of Time The Spectre of Lanyon Moor Fires of Vulcan Winter for the Adept
I've fallen slightly behind in listening to my CDs - please excuse my ignorance if I say anything stupid... All comments are my own personal opinions, I don't mean any offence to any writers, directors etc.

Doctor Who always had the potential to shine on audio and it's criminal that is was never really capitalised on until 1999. My favourites from the first bunch are... 1. Winter for the Adept - nostalgic reasons more than anything else. 2. The Marian Conspiracy - strong introduction for a new companion and a superb story to begin Colin Bakers reinvention of the role 3. The Fires of Vulcan - Bonnie shines in this and it is probably still my favourite Mel audio. 4. The Shadow of the Scourge 5. The Holy Terror

Yetaxa wrote:Would you people say that these earlier ones are much better than the more recent ones? It's hard to say. I think the earlier audios have the novelty factor attached to them. At the time they were using Doctors and companions who hadn't had much screen time. Also the show had been off the air for ten years. Now we're possibly at the stage were we take Big Finish for granted. It's no slant on the quality of the stories, but they sometimes feel a bit buried in the quantity of them. But that's cool too because it means ten years from now I could easily pick up any one of a hundred stories and think 'hang on that's brilliant'. I think the quantity will help the stories to last longer.

I would say that Nick Briggs has had a big input in the many changes at Bg Finish at the moment, and the stories are think are getting much better.
