This upcoming subscription special release doesn't have a thread yet. So I thought I'd create one. Just share your thoughts about this. I'm quite excited. Look at my, well, things of my profile.(avatar etcetera)

For a while I thought I was the only person in the world who liked The Krotons, but it seems there are a few fans out there. So I am really looking forward to this release - a nice Christmas present. As a side note, I always thought the alien voice in Creatures of Beauty sounded like Krotons!

I think that they're one of the few true robots in the series. They just want to function continuously and not exhaust. Of course, in The Krotons they have to use high brains' mind to do this.

I love The Krotons, brings back happy memories of The Five Faces of Doctor Season in the early 80s, and the first Troughton story I ever saw (Which instantly made him my favourite Doctor). Yes the story has been made on the cheap and the Krotons are not exactly a genuine force to be reckoned with, but the episodes have a sense of fun about them, with brilliant performances from the regulars, Philip Madoc's first Who appearance, and the quarry film sequences are wonderfully shot(Can't wait to see them remastered on DVD). The scripts may not be reflective of what was to come from Robert Holmes, but personally I think it's one of his best.
Really looking forward to this as I think THE Colin Baker will bring another sparkling performance to this, as he has always cited Troughton as his favourite Doctor and he will pick up on the significance of it all.

To be honest, I don't much like Robert Holmes's scripts usually, but The Krotons truely is one of the best, and probably the best that season.

The Krotons was the first Troughton I ever saw. Loved it then. Really looking forward to this CD.

Oh yes, I forgot about that. I can't believe that it's only been a day since I posted the first request. It's probably because I've posted about 50 comments since then.

When will Return of the Krotons be available for the non-subscribers to purchase? I know it will be a while, but how long will I have to wait?

Does that mean that Return to the Web Planet will be available to non subscribers this December?

Yetaxa wrote:Does that mean that Return to the Web Planet will be available to non subscribers this December? I would've thought so... that's how it worked with Return of the Daleks, and "twelve months" was quoted as the delay in adverts for Return to the Web Planet... *shrug*

Have to admit, I didn't really know much about the Krotons beyond the name (sorry Yetaxa!) so in preparation for this release, I went to the Doctor Who Reference guide to read the story synopsis.
Now, I'm really looking forward to this and I'm going to try and track down the VHS release on eBay as well.

That's a really brave thing to say, considering that most fans would say completely the opposite...Each to their own though, I say! I have to say that I thought the original was not particularly good, but the Krotons themselves have a lot of potential and I look forward to hearing this story...I think they'll probably work better when you can't see them!...For that reason, I feel that the original would probably be better regarded if it only existed on audio, just as Holmes' other Season 6 effort, "The Space Pirates", which works on audio only as a desperate cure for insomnia, badly needs its missing visuals to give it any credibility at all...If only the two stories had been swapped around in the destruction cycle!;)

Those who feel likewise or those who can't wait til they return in December might be interested in BBC Audiobooks' release next month of the Krotons soundtrack linked by Frazer Hines.
