First of all I would like to say big THANK YOU to James Swallow for really great story and equally big THANK YOU to Claudia Black, whom I admire since her "Farscape" years and it's almost 8 years now, for giving us such enjoyable performance in this audio drama.
Can we hope for the script of "Shell Game" to be released any time soon?

Katarzyna

Shell Game is definitely my favorite of the releases to date (haven't listened to the Beckett one yet). The rapport between Vala and Daniel is a definite plus and the fact that it the second voice was a cast member was a benefit.

It's really great story and I really love your characterization of Vala. She's really fascinating and multi-dimensional person and your writing plus Claudia's interpretation gave even more interesting character than in the series. Can we have more please in the near future? Whistle

I could listen to Claudia Black read the phone book. Her character is, in my opinion, better on audio than on the show.

Because the writer has definitely much more imagination and better grip of the character than the writers of the actual show... MGM should open their eyes and think about perhaps firing some of the worst series' (and coughcoughcoughContinuumcoughcoughcough) writers.

Plus, here Vala is the central character and Claudia could present all the nuances which were impossible to be shown in the show.

One thing that Big Finish has always been able to do is take underloved/appreciated characters and make them shine. I think that the best example is the Colin Baker Doctor in the Doctor Who line.

Which of the stories do you recommend for the start?

Back to topic: I think that Vala has huge potential to shine on the show, but it definitely requires much better writers than the current writing team, maybe with the exception of Rob Cooper, but I'm afraid it's not going to happen because Brad Wright (I'm not able to understand why MGM wants him to write the third movie) won't allow anybody to overshadow his precioussssssssssssss National Treasure with blonde hair...

This is such a wonderful listen! And a cracking story to boot!

The dialogue between Vala and Daniel is classic, just like we have come to know and love, and Claudia and Michael deliver both the banter and exposition squeefully well! Claudia/Vala's impersonations are hilarious, especially those of her team! And Daniel's reactions are priceless.

It's nice to have more of a look into vala's past, how she lived, why she did what she did and is like she is. A tale of compassion and action told in a wonderfully fun and charming way!

I have to say, James, you did a fantastic job! While Necessary Evil didn't really tickle me, Gift of the God was fantastic and Shell Game...well, I think you topped Sally. You wrote Vala so well and CB did such a great job.

I was sat listening to it on the bus and at a park. I must have looked such a boob just sat there smiling and chuckling. The music was great too, really fit the story and CB's reading. Well...that's that really. Great work, James. I bet you had fun writing it.

Oh and BTW, loved the little mention of the Kalem galaxy. That made me smile

Claudia Black should do more voice-acting roles because she was fantastic in this entertaining story. I rather like the fact that the problem wasn't of a sci-fi concept like alternate realities but plain misinterpretation.

Michael Shanks on the other hand gave a subdued voice which had also bothered me in "Gift of the Gods". There were many parts of his dialogue where he needed to raise the volume of his voice. It's as if he can't suspend the fact that he's in the recording booth.

Agreed! By far my favourite of the Stargate audios, and Claudia's performance is spot-on.

Hmm - can we persuade BF to get Claudia in for a DW story?

Please? Mr Briggs? Get Claudia in again or ... I'll growl at a kitten!

It would be great if BF did "F A R S C A P E" story, Aeryn has so much to tell about... :) But I'd also love to hear Claudia in a DW story, so I second the request.

BTW, Claudia has recorded the new audio book recently, she is reading Laurell K. Hamilton's "Swallowing Darkness", I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com last month and they've shipped my copy today! :)
