The thing about their powers are that they are never explained, so they can be anything. The telepathy power though, does not appear to be technological - in Assignment 5 (the dinner party) they give one of the characters level 3 (if memory serves) telepathy so he can work with them.

With the powers, apart from telepathy which is a cool power and should be abused at all times, I suspect they don't use them out of a pride in their work. If Sapphire can pull all data out of your head instantly, or if Steel can just make everyone freeze instantly meaning that they can't be attacked, they would come across as a supernatural Gestapo of sorts.

Here's another question - if "transuranic elements cannot be used where there is life", how did they get around it in the final television show and in Cruel Immortality? Do their time bubbles enable them to interact with humans?

Yup. Brass.

One thing that struck me about the telepathy, BTW, is that it's apparently like broadcasting (in other words, if three of them are together, two of them cannot have a telepathic conversation that the other can't overhear), which would explain why they always address each other by name when speaking telepathically (which would otherwise make no sense at all). And it's why, when Sapphire joins Steel and Gold at one point in The Passenger, she tells them something telepathically, and then (if memory serves) says to Steel that she needs to tell him something in private, which apparently means she wants to tell him verbally, when Gold is not there.

I think you have the "transuranic elements," which we haven't encountered yet, for the reasons stated, with the "transient beings," such as the three in Assignment 6, and the ones that are referred to (I'm avoiding spoilers here) in Zero (which means that we've accidentally got back on topic for this thread :-) ).

The transuranics are apparently "on the same team" as S&S, but are used in other types of situations and environments. The transients, OTOH, are clearly non-friendly rivals.

Yep - that's right, I did mix them up. Odd, though, that in the final television assignment, both Sapphire and Steel said they had been approached to join the Transients (I assume that they meant the Transients). Maybe it's like being tapped by MI6?

And I suspect that the telepathy works like an encoded radio - if you're on the wavelength you can hear, which is why they address each by name when directing questions.

I made a comprehensive list once myself, I will have to dig it out.

The wrench in the works is in "Assignment 3", Silver seemingly flitting from room to room, teleporting whenever he feels like it.

It's also interesting that Silver is apparently destroyed in that story, only to come back again in Assignment 6 without explanation.

I'm almost positive that in the dinner party one (assignment 5) that they teleport. If not that one, then I know I have seen them teleport and not just be teleported. I think I shall have to rewatch the series.

Also, the powers seem to vary from show to show - Sapphire can take back time 30 minutes, an hour, a week or many years depending on the story.

Eh? Don't remember that. The changling reverts him, but he is brought back at the end of three, isn't he?

Oh, oop! Does he? That's not how I remember it.
