Paul said somewhere that they shouldn't be avaliable in shops/to non-subscribers until the 25th, I think, so they shouldn't be avaliable in TP yet.

They should be in the shops by the 25th. If you purchase online on the 25th you'll be able to download it right away and you'll still recieve the CD.

Paul

Good fact: I listened to the first part of this last night and laughed my head off.
Bad fact: Husband had to go in to work at 3:30 this morning to update a server.
Worse fact: My laughing woke up husband.
Good fact: I was too entertained to be burdened by guilt.
Best fact: I have the other three parts to listen to today.

True fact: Even before reaching the conclusion, I already know this is going to be one of my favorites.
Applause Thanks for continuing the Six&Charley arc in such a grand fashion.

Loved this. In fact, loved it so much (along with the previous 6th Doc'/Charley story), it's inspired me to take out my first ever subscription with BF... I figure there's still two more monthly releases featuring my new favourite pair, plus that subscription bonus that was the deciding factor... hopefully the yet to be revealed final 6th months of me subscription will see them teaming up at least once more!

If I did have one tiny criticism (balanced against the whole thing, which I did think was marvellous), it would be that....

SPOILER SPACE.. just in case.. dunno what the spoiler policy is in these threads and don wanna give anything away, eh!

...just like in The Condemned we only get the Doc' and Charley together at both ends of the story and for the majority of it, they're once again seperated. They play so well of each other, it just seems a waste to keep splitting them up for such long sections of their two stories to date.

Other than that though, brilliant stuff!

I got it yesterday and listened to it last night.

I liked it, especially the humorous parts. However - it reminded me too much of the first Bernice Summerfield (and various other shows and stories that have a similar theme). I'm also getting a bit jaded about the overuse of nanotech as magic, that can explain everything and nothing. I prefer the DW universe Block Transfer equations instead, if you want to do that kind of thing :)

However - performances were good, the dialogue was good - and it's convinced me to buy Rookwood for my fiancée to read :)
(she's currently going through those Scottish historical romances with the time traveller woman).

Now, I want to see a BF production about bushrangers, just because :)

I'm incredibly sorry to say that I thought this audio was just ok. The first chapter was, by far, the most enjoyable. Both because it had Grel (who I love more than pie) but also because it had Six and Charley actually interacting. Why the insistence on keeping them apart so much? Their dynamic is absolutely delightful, yet both of their audios have them separated for the majority of the story. That's just ridiculous. I think a lot of my disappointment with this audio stems from my general distaste for historical romances and all the annoying melodrama.

But I'm being a bit harsh. It wasn't terrible. It just could have done with a lot more Six/Charley and a LOT more Grel. (Oh, and he needs to keep calling her "Charlotte." It's friggin' adorable.)

I'm half way through this audio, and I have loved every single second of it! This type of story is my favourite type and I love how the Six/Charley relationship is developing. After The Condemned I was rather sceptical, but now I can see my worries were for nothing. And this story really shows off just how brilliant India Fisher is.

Listened to this one while I was at GenCon this weekend, nice way to unwind after a day's gaming. Really enjoyed it, and 6/Charley continue to impress. I do hope there are many more of this pairing to come.

And then I discovered that Colin Baker was actually at GenCon too, so I asked him to sign my copy of Doomwood. Nice.

Just listened to this last night!

This is my first Big Finish digital download (well, other than sampling the Phantom play's first episode). Previously I've just purchased a disc here and there or borrowed from a friend. While the latter is not illegal, it doesn't really help the bottom line and I want to support Big Finish. I'm really impressed with the quality of the audio for the download. I've been holding out hope that I could afford the physical CD's, but the quality is so good I think I'm just going to do a digital subscription.

After listening to and enjoying The Condmened immensely, I was excited about this play for the 6th Doctor/Charley interaction but was unsure how much I'd be into the actual story. I can happily say I enjoyed the whole thing.

I thought the idea of a VERY overdue library book was a fun idea. I really enjoyed the opening sequence and the way the 6th Doctor and Charley play off each other. I have huge amounts of affection for Charley but I will have to say I thought her story with the 8th Doctor came to a very natural end. But pairing her with the 6th Doctor has been something of a stroke of genius in concept... but more on that later.

I've always found the interplay between romanticized historical figures and their reality to be interesting. I've thought about it mostly in the treatment of pirates but it applies to highwaymen too. It's hard not to think of the poem (or Loreena McKennitt's lovely song version) and not get swept away in the romance of it all.

The way the story slowly moved from reality into a heightened state of fiction was handled superbly. I thought all the actors were SO impressive across the board, especially in this respect. Playing the same character but at various levels of authenticity can't have been easy. Yet everyone pulls it off so well and the result is very effective and often hilarious.

Charley's transformation from the Charley we know into Romantic Heroine Charley was great as was the Colin Baker's subtle shift into Eleanor's Uncle. Lady Sybil's turn as a scheming villain was rather grand as well. I haven't encountered the Grell before (what story did they first appear in) but I thought they were used very effectively here.

I also enjoyed that the story set up it's own rules and played fairly by them. The resolution was clever and well-thought out.

END SPOILERS

But now to the thing that bugged me. As other people have mentioned, I find it odd that we have this great 6th Doctor/Charley pairing but they've been split up for the majority of their first two stories. I hope that this is just the first of a long line of 6th/Charley stories (I agree with Colin - we need at least 45!) but if it's a limited run part of me will be dissappointed that so much of their time was spent apart. Obviously, it's a great tradition in Doctor Who for the companion to go off into their own B story... and I have faith that it's been done for a purpose (perhaps us to keep from wondering how long Charley can deflect questions about her past?) but their interactions keep leaving me wanting more! Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Definitely looking forward to The Raincloud Man (and the return of DI Menzies!) Maybe I can start my subscription around then, if not sooner.... :)

I really, really enjoyed that. Really did. I've never heard the Grel in anything before but fact: they are great. Additional fact: Colin Baker and India Fisher work so well toeghter it's scary. But I agree that they deffo need to have more scenes togehter rather than keeping them apart all the time. Fingers crossed they'll be a proper team in Brotherhood. But a thoroughly enjoyable play and a great new TARDIS team

I will have to listen to this again before I make my final judgement on it but so far one thing I'm certain of is the pairing of the Sixth Doctor and 'Charlotte' is shaping up very nicely indeed. Long may it continue.

Unfortunately, I feel asleep part way through Whistle but what I did hear was quite enjoyable.

I have to agree with all that has been said so far about the separating of the Doctor and Charley, but I also feel that the interplay between the Doctor and Charley at the start of this play made it seem too familiar and comfortable, as if several adventures have happened. I would like to to hear Charley trying to be a little more coy. She also doesn't seem to concerned that the Doctor, her Doctor may well be dead. Surely that would cause the character to be rather more distressed than we are hearing?

My other niggle is that the 6th Doctor is seeming a little, well, dense, slow on the uptake. His enquiring mind wouldn't let go half the comments she has dropped and is surely in the nature of the 6th Doctor to openly challenge....
